We launched DUBS, a social app for gamers to match and create parties with like minded people. As senior product designer, I guided design strategy for initial MVP and launch.
Senior Product Designer | 2024-2025
I worked collaboratively with the art team to establish fundamental design principles. For the MVP, I aided in building a component library and design system.
Team Up is a core feature of DUBS and the ideal way of meeting new potential gaming friends. We wanted to remove the burden of needing to vet players or join solo queue by matching users with other players that match their interests and playstyles.
Users are able to swipe through profiles to discover potential teammates who match what they're searching for.
For added accessibility, buttons are placed in an easy to reach zone for an alternative action to swiping.
Users can tap to expand the profile to view more information and quickly go back with a close button located in the thumb zone.
We built lobbies to solve the user's needs for immediacy. Not everyone has time to parse through dozens of profiles and would rather just jump in game. Lobbies allow the user to create joinable chats for other users to join and instantly start playing.
Users can create lobbies when actively searching for teammates in real time. They can choose to invite people they've met on DUBS or allow any users to join.
Users can view open lobbies from the Lobby tab. Tapping game tiles will filter the available lobbies by that game, allowing users to instantly find a group to play with.
Each lobby has a chat for coordinating sessions, sharing reaction stickers, and building future potential teammates.
Our first iteration of the lobby card was relatively basic, just showing details, lobby type, user count, and a call to action to join.
Our second iteration contained meaningful updates in the form of game covers and the age of the lobby
Our third iteration was closest to the final design with additional information displayed about user settings for that lobby.
We wanted to keep DUBS as a safe space where people are able to keep their identity hidden to protect themselves. Removing the ability to choose their profile photo created new challenges and the opportunity to include something different. We landed on a character card creation process to make your profile unique.
Users are able to choose from different character, text, and background layers to create a profile card that is uniquely their own.
Users can collect different card layers by doing various tasks in the app such as joining and creating lobbies, sending chat stickers, or updating their profile.
We designed the user profiles with the goal of showcasing as much of the card as possible for maximum impact.
Each card has different layers to mix and match to create your own individual card. Text layers come in a variety of art styles.
Users have over a dozen different characters to choose from that all have unique poses and appearances.
Users can choose from a selection of backgrounds to create a scene for their avatar and further set themselves apart.
We launched DUBS in early 2025 and scaled to over 20k downloads in our first month with an average of 600 DAU and we are growing fast.
